From the President…

Greetings!

I’ve been meaning to sit down and write this for a while, but with all of the preparation going into the Oregon Open and prepping for the Portland Open, it’s been a bit busy. So, while I have a few minutes today, I thought I’d give everyone an update.

As I’ve said before, we can’t do much as an organization without the support of the members and other individuals who attend the events we host. As I’m sure you’re aware, we were not able to run a Spring League this year due to the lack of participation. This has, unfortunately, been a recurring theme over the last few years. Since the pandemic, the number of players has dropped dramatically. Some of this is due to players no longer playing, some is due to the increased ability to play online, and then there are those that are playing often but only in their local area.

Our goal is to promote the sport of darts in the Portland (and surrounding) area, and while that sounds simple enough, there is a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes. Sometimes we get everything perfect and can provide amazing opportunities and events. Sometimes the results are not what we desire, and we have to forgo an event or a league season. But none of it matters if we are not listening to, and working for, the members of the organization to provide them with the best possible experience. But if there are no members, then we’re tasked with bringing our membership numbers up so that there is a membership to provide things for.

All of the board members are volunteers, and so life can get in the way here and there. What would be helpful is a few more board members to lighten the load for everyone while providing the membership with the best support possible. There will be an opportunity (soon) for members of the darting community to join the board and help to promote the sport.

So, I’m going to try to do this more often so that I can share my thoughts and the state of the organization with you. I’m also going to do what I can to be out and about when life permits. However, if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to help out… feel free to reach out to me via email or text. My only request is that if you text me, please include your name in the message. That way I know who I’m talking to.

Until next time….
